What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise format that primarily focuses on movement control and improving core strength. Anybody can do Pilates. The scope of exercise is vast and can be tailored by a therapist to fit your specific needs. All new clients to Pilates will need to attend a 1-hour assessment where a therapist with clinical Pilates training will take a full history and assess the whole body. This is a key part in identifying key areas to improve. The session will also involve an introduction to some of the exercises and equipment available here. Once your Pilates instructor feels you are comfortable with the exercises and machines you can qualify for a group class or continue with one-on-one sessions.
You can benefit from Pilates.

What does it involve?
Pilates sessions simply require some comfortable clothing that you are able to exercise in. It is generally recommended that attendance once a week for six weeks will bring about positive changes. There is no limit on the frequency or duration of your Pilates course. Many clients who reap the benefits decide to continue beyond this initial course. You can have one-on-one sessions or small group sessions (5 people max)
What machines do we use?
RJ Physiotherapy has a studio specifically designed for Pilates. We use the popular Pilates machines known as the Reformer, which are not found in most gyms. The machines use spring resistance to challenge the body’s dynamic stability. Classical mat work and Swiss ball Pilates is also available.
Why Pilates at RJ Physio?
Our Pilates instructors have clinical Pilates experience & they have specific knowledge of rehabilitation needs, rather than just needing numbers in a gym class! The high-quality exclusive machines not available in gyms & provide intensive supervision, mostly one on one but classes never exceed 5 people.
