Ben Sims

Senior Physiotherapist

BPhty, PGDip (MSK)

Ben earned his Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in 2019 and continued his postgraduate studies, completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2024.

Ben has extensive experience working in football since the beginning of his career, ranging from age-grade club football to National League level with Birkenhead United. He also has experience in age-grade international football, having served as the lead physiotherapist for the New Zealand Men’s Under-17 team. Through this experience, he has developed a strong skill set in assessing and managing a wide range of football-related injuries, with a focus on guiding athletes through a safe, effective, and confident return to sport. He also places a strong emphasis on injury prevention strategies to help players remain on the field.

Outside the clinic, Ben enjoys training at his local CrossFit gym and has a particular interest in treating CrossFit-related injuries. His own training experience allows him to better understand the physical demands of the sport and tailor rehabilitation programmes to support both performance and injury prevention, while encouraging athletes to continue training and working towards their goals.

While football and CrossFit are key areas of interest, Ben treats a broad range of musculoskeletal conditions, including sports injuries, strength-training-related injuries, general musculoskeletal pain, and chronic pain. His collaborative and evidence-based approach combines manual therapy, targeted exercise prescription, and education to help patients achieve their goals and support long-term, sustainable outcomes.

Additionally, Ben is involved in the return-to-sport and force plate testing utilised at Roland Jeffery Physio.
