Normatec

Roland Jeffery Physiotherapy has world class recovery equipment here in our clinic, so you can recover like a professional athlete.

What does it do?

Dynamic air compression effectively mimics the muscle pump of the legs and arms, enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolites out of the limbs after an intense workout. The Normatec machine combines dynamic air compression with a patented Pulse massage pattern that employs three key techniques—pulsing, distal release, and gradients.

Studies show it can help relieve muscle aches and/or pain and temporarily increase circulation resulting in increased flexibility and range of motion, injury prevention, and accelerated recovery time.

How does it work?

Normatec is the leader in rapid recovery - giving you a competitive edge that only elite athletes have access to. Compressed air massages your limbs, mobilizes fluid, and speeds recovery with the Normatec pulse massage pattern. You will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are moulded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet, then calves, and then your upper thigh. Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.

PULSING – instead of using static compression (squeezing) to transport fluid out of the limbs, sequential pulse technology uses dynamic compression (pulsing). Our patented pulsing action more effectively mimics the muscle pump of the legs, greatly enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolics out of the limbs after an intense workout.

GRADIENTS – veins and lymphatic vessels have one-way valves that prevent fluid backflow. Similarly Normetec pulse technology uses hold pressures to keep fluids from being forced on the wrong direction. Because of the enhancement, instead of tapering pressure off, the pulse can deliver maximum pressure in every zone.

DISTAL RELEASE – because extended static pressure can be detrimental to the body’s normal circulatory flow, sequential pulse technology releases the hold pressures once they are no longer needed to prevent backflow. By releasing the hold pressure in each zone as soon as possible, each portion of the limb gains maximal rest time without a significant pause between compression cycles.

What are the benefits?

INCREASES BLOOD FLOW/ CIRCULATION - Normatec’s patented pulse massage pattern employs three key techniques – pulsing, distal release, and gradients.

PROMOTES HEALING AND RECOVERY - Integrate your recovery session seamlessly into your training plan.

DECREASES MUSCLE FATIGUE AFTER ACUTE EXERCISE - Flush out soreness and bring oxygenated blood to the part of the body furthest from the heart.

When should I use the Normatec?

Anyone involved in physical acivity who wants to optimise recovery, promote healing and reduce muscle fatigue. The Normatec is ideally suited for use after physical acivity - directly afterwards or within a few days of exercsie.
